Soundstreams Canada presents the second annual Cool Drummings: International Percussion Festival featuring some of the world’s greatest percussion ensembles and soloists from across Canada and around the world. Artists include sensational Mexican ensemble Tambuco, three-time Grammy- winner Glen Velez, steel pan virtuoso Liam Teague, Toronto favorites Nexus and Beverly Johnson and vocalists Suba Sankaran and Patricia O’Callaghan.  Concerts will feature a world premiere by Michael Colgrass plus works by Alice Ho, Fred Rzewski, Edgar Varese, Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Terry Riley and more!

Raging Asian Women (RAW) is a collective of East and South-East Asian women carrying on the North American Taiko drumming tradition and promoting social justice while making music. RAW integrate rhythm and movement to show a powerful expression of their unique experiences as Asian-Canadian women. RAW believes in the power of collective creation and collaboration, and are continually working to develop innovative artistic ideas.    

Free outdoor concert at 6:30 p.m. at Philosopher’s Walk, U of T, behind Edward Johnson Building.
